Newest Attempt by the Israeli Occupying Authorities to Confiscate Over 585 Dunums of Palestinian Land in East Jerusalem-"Mount Scopus Slopes Plan"
On September 10th, 2014, the Israeli National Council for Planning and Building (NCPB) issued its decision to approve the establishment of the 'National Park-The Slopes of Mount Scopus' project. Since then, numerous attempts by the Israel Nature and Parks Authority (INPA), supported by the Jerusalem Municipality are ongoing to advance the plan.
In August 2023, a new plan was proposed, if approved it will have negative consequences on the lives of Jerusalemites especially those residing in Issawiya and Al Turr. They will lose ownership of the land and turned into state owned land This plan denies Palestinians their basic human rights including HLP rights; Palestinians living under occupation who are entitled to having a safe home, free from the fear of forced eviction, a place that offers safety, and the ability to seek livelihood opportunities.
On October 5th, 2023, our Lawyers met with residents in Issawiya and will submit an objection on behalf of the community.
Without taking any meaningful action to hold Israel account for its systematic and widespread violations and crimes under international law against the Palestinian population, the international community has contributed to undermining the international legal order and has emboldened Israel to continue perpetrating crimes with impunity. All political and legal remedies must be exhausted to stop this plan from passing.
Adv. Mohammad Elyan discussing the proposed plan and takes note of all the participants' concerns and thoughts moving forward.
