Punitive Residency Revocation: The most recent tool of forcible transfer

  • Date: 2016-06-20

Five Palestinian human rights organizations, including St. Yves, published a brochure addressing collective punishment as means of forcible transfer practiced by the Israeli authorities against Palestinians in Jerusalem. These collective punishment measures vary from land confiscation and house demolitions to punitive residency revocations, and numerous other discriminatory measures aiming at isolating Jerusalem completely and forcibly transferring its local residents.

The brochure highlights revoking the residencies of Palestinians in Jerusalem based on a new criterion which is the “breach of allegiance to the state of Israel”. If this criterion of allegiance is not suppressed before it is cemented in Israeli law, this will allow the displacement of thousands of Palestinians from Jerusalem as a form of collective punishment.
