St. Yves Obtains Family Unification for a Jerusalemite Family and the Court of the Israeli Ministry of Interior for Unjustified Delay
- Date: 2016-09-08
The Society of St. Yves – Catholic Center for Human Rights obtained a family unification permit for “J.A”, a 33 year old woman holding a Palestinian ID, after the Israeli Ministry of Interior postponed the procedure without justification for a year and a half. Her husband, “M.A”, holder of a Jerusalem ID, approached St. Yves seeking legal assistance in this matter.
St. Yves approached the Israeli Ministry of Interior with all the required and necessary documents to obtain a family unification permit for “J.A”, however, the Israeli Ministry of Interior kept on delaying their response. St. Yves sent multiple correspondences complaining about the lack of response and requesting an immediate answer. As a result, St. Yves filed a complaint before the Court of Appeals against the Ministry of Interior due to their failure to process the family unification application in due time, and intentional delay. Following that, the Israeli Ministry of Interior immediately responded accepting the family unification application for “J.A” without giving any justification to their delay and absence. St. Yves demanded the court to fine the ministry for their unjustified postponement; the court granted St. Yves their request and fined the Israeli Ministry of Interior with 2000 NIS.
