The Society of St. Yves – Catholic Center for Human Rights participated in the 39th regular session of the Human Rights Council that took place in Geneva, (September 10th and 29th, 2018). St. Yves took part in this session, engaging through a joint written statement and a joint oral intervention, meeting with member States of the Council as well taking part in side events.

The joint submission directed its course towards annexation in of the Occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) through Israel’s passage laws and bills that aim to accelerate and promote the annexation of occupied territory and treating it as part of Israel.

On September 24th, St. Yves took part in the side event on “The ongoing annexation of Occupied East Jerusalem” alongside BADIL resource center for Palestinian residency and refugee rights, Civic Coalition for Palestinian Rights in Jerusalem (CCPRJ), Al-Haq and Addameer. In the side event St. Yves highlighted Israel’s annexation attempts on the legal sphere, and Israel’s parliament recent trends in legislating beyond its boundaries, inside occupied territory, reflected through the Law on Amending Administrative Affairs Court Law and military Order 1797, which further expands the arbitrary powers of the Israeli Civil Administration (ICA) to remove or demolish new structures built without permits in Area C, and the grave implications of such steps on the fundamental rights of Palestinians.

During those events and meetings through this 39th session, St. Yves stressed the violation of both human rights law and customs of the war that result in from Israel’s policies in the oPt, and drew attention to the illegality of the Israeli creeping annexation which constitutes a flagrant violation of international law.
