St. Yves Prevents the Demolition of a Jerusalemite Family’s House
- Date: 2016-07-12
The Society of St. Yves – Catholic Center for Human Rights succeeded in preventing the demolition of a Jerusalemite family’s house, by submitting an urgent request to halt the demolition before the Israeli authorities on Monday the 15th of July, after the Israeli Municipality, which claims that the house was built without permit, had sent inspectors to the house and taken photographs of it, usually a sign of an imminent demolition. The court responded in favor of St. Yves’ request, which means the demolition procedures have been halted for the time being.
The family has been living in this house for the past 17 years and they do not have any alternative domicile to live in. This demolition would make the 7 members of this family homeless among which 4 are under 18 years old. In addition, the family lives in very difficult financial and social conditions, and the father suffers from a health disease.
The Society of St. Yves gives free legal consultation and representation of citizens in issues related to house demolitions through a specialized and dedicated team of lawyers in Jerusalem as well as in the West Bank – Areas (C).
